"I couldn't afford high-level training for my daughter. So I learned it myself."
My daughter fell in love with soccer. She had talent and drive, but we didn't have the money for elite training programs. The good coaches charged $100-150 per session. The academies had waitlists and price tags that didn't fit our life.
So I did what any stubborn parent would do: I learned it myself. I watched hundreds of YouTube videos. I read books on youth athletic development. I talked to every coach, physio, and strength trainer who would give me the time of day.
And I trained her myself. Early mornings, weekends, whenever we could fit it in. We tracked everything in spreadsheets. We filmed movements and compared them week over week.
It worked. She improved and met her goals.
But why was this so hard to access? Why did I have to piece together knowledge that elite programs have systematized? Why should a kid's development depend on whether their parents can afford expensive trainers?
I took everything I learned and built it into this platform. Now we are sending it into the world, hoping it helps other families like ours.
Every athlete deserves access to professional-grade development tools.
That's why Athlo exists.
The problem we're solving
Data gets lost
When a youth athlete switches clubs (and they switch 3-5 times during U12-U18) they lose everything. Training logs, wellness trends, injury history, movement baselines. Gone. The data stays with the club that collected it.
Prevention fails
ACL injuries among female youth athletes are rising 2-3% every year. Prevention requires longitudinal tracking: movement quality over time, load spikes across seasons, injury patterns that span multiple teams. But that tracking is impossible when data resets every time an athlete changes clubs.
Access is unequal
Only elite athletes get access to real development tools. Professional academies spend $3,000-6,000 per athlete annually on screening, monitoring, and coaching. Everyone else gets YouTube tutorials and hope.
A different model
We're building something new. The athlete owns their data from day one. Professional-grade tools are free for everyone. Your 10-year development history follows you through every club, every coach, every level, from U8 recreational to college to professional.
What we believe
Athlete sovereignty
The athlete is the primary account holder. Not the club. Not the league. Athletes create the account, own all data, and control who sees what.
Free forever
Athletes never pay. Those who benefit from athlete development (clubs, teams) pay for premium features. The athlete tier is free, forever, no exceptions.
No data sales
We don't monetize athlete data. Ever. No scouts, no colleges, no brands, no researchers. Your data is yours. Period.
Community pricing
70-100% discounts for non-profit clubs, public schools, and underserved communities. Access shouldn't depend on ability to pay.
Mission-locked
If a revenue decision compromises athlete trust or widens the access gap, we don't do it. We'd rather grow slower and stay true.
Long-term thinking
This is a 10+ year project, not a quick exit. We're building infrastructure for athlete development that outlasts any single club or league.
Why this matters
Real stories from athletes, parents, and coaches
When I switched clubs, I lost 3 years of data. Training logs, wellness trends, injury history. Gone. That should never happen.
My daughter tore her ACL at 14. The warning signs were there: fatigue, knee soreness, high training load. But no one was tracking it together.
We spend $150/session on strength coaching for our top prospects. The other 95% of our players get nothing. That's not right.
How we're funded
We're funded by people who care about athletes, not investors who care about returns.
Founding Donors
Generous donors who believe in athlete-owned data are funding the initial build while we get started.
BC Benefit Company
As we grow, we'll incorporate as a BC Benefit Company, a legal structure that requires us to prioritize mission alongside profit.
Sustainable Revenue
Long-term, we sustain through grants, donations, and optional premium features.
Revenue goes back into development, research, and community events, not shareholder pockets.
